Today was one of those not so good days. So here are my 5 good things:
1. I’m head over heels in love with the most amazing man ever
2. I’m writing a hillarious sitcom with my best friend in the entire world
3. Despite the stress and frustrations, at least I have a job
4. I managed to run 4 miles today after an incredibly long day
5. my Kanye West parody has over 27 thousand hits after only being online for one week

“Free Time” Kanye West Power parody

After 3 days of rapping, editing, animating, rapping, writing, retouching, rewriting and screaming at my computer, my Kanye parody is finally FINISHED!!!! Miss New York Claire Buffie wins on Gay rights platform

Next year Claire Buffie will make history at the 2011 Miss America pageant as the FIRST contestant with a Gay rights platform in the organization’s 90 year history. I had the pleasure of working with Claire when I first moved to New York last year, and a few months later she shot my gorgeous head shots in exchange for a promotional video I filmed and edited for her website. I hate to gush but I really can’t begin to express how proud I am of Claire.

Not only does she have her own business doing graphic design and photographing everyone from former Miss America contestants to actors like David Allen Greir, but she also works part time at the Apple store, manages to work out 5 days a week (she won swimsuit at Miss New York this year and last year), maintains a blog about her experiences with the Miss America organization, is on the board of directors for the New York branch of PFLAG and regularly mentors young girls in the Miss Teen USA program. All while maintaining an active social life and making Miss NY press appearances. Can you say AMAZING? This girl is practically a super hero!

I’m so proud to call Claire a friend and to have her representing my new home state. To this day it blows my mind that a year ago she told me she wanted to go to Miss America, and now she’s doing it! She is truly an inspiration and has everything it takes to be Miss America. I can’t wait to watch her on January 15th and root for her victory. I hope you’ll tune in as well and cheer her on with me! Go Claire!!

Just spotted a few of my friends and favorite vloggers (DeStorm, Meekakitty and theWillofdc) over on the NY Post’s website. It’s so amazing and inspiring to see my friends working hard, pumping out great content and making a living off of YouTube! It’s pretty amazing that today, you can totally build your own career in your living room via social media. My friends and peers are living proof! Don’t you worry kids, I’m getting my butt in gear so I can be right up there with them come 2011! Congrats guys, I’m really proud!

Following the advice of a co-worker, I decided to try something different with my makeup today and opted for a sparkly wine colored eye shadow. I wear bronze shadow almost every day, but I think this might officially be the start of a new era for me. I really love how the color pops against the white shirt and I think it makes this outfit a little more fun. I also love how a simple button down can be transformed into something kind of sexy with some fun jewelry. I have a feeling this is going to become a go to outfit for me. It’s so simple but really cute.

I kind of just find this ridiculous that white people should have to educate themselves on black culture before they decide they want dreads. If I wanted to chemically relax my hair (like I have done in the past) & a white person told me ‘well you have to educate yourself on white people & our culture” I’d tell them to get the fuck outta town. Yeah, its cool if they want to educate themselves on the history of dread locks but I mean its a hairstyle, I don’t think its something we should take so seriously.

Agreed. I just left a comment about this on the video, but wanted to share on my blog and prompt further discussion. (expect my own video on this topic really soon) Here’s the thing, dreadlocks do not BELONG to African Americans or Rastafarians. Many cultures have worn locs including the Greeks, Egyptians, Aztecs, Hindus and Jews. Passing judgment on a white person who chooses to wear locs is just as presumptuous as black person with a relaxer telling me I should “take care of my nap” or a Rastifarian telling me I should cover my head out of respect for God. What I do with my hair is my business and vice versa. Also, it has different meaning for everyone. I have seen beautiful locs on people of all backgrounds. And I’ve also seen some “ugly” locs on people of color. If the hair on your head makes you happy, then I’m all good. It isn’t our place to judge anyone else’s hairstyle choice weather they are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, shaved head, mohawked, dreadlocked, wigged, weaved, bleached or whatever.
